Kenilworth Castle, United KingdomA rich history surrounds this wonderful castle. Images By Sulis Items 1-7 of 7. Kenilworth keep from Strong Tower. Image by Sulis Kenilworth castle looking along the long causeway the keep at Kenilworth, from within the keep at Kenilworth, from within the inner bailey area a view of the once Great Hall at Kenilworth from the upper floor. The Great Hall was the biggest of it's kind outside of Westminster at the time A spectacular view of the keep. Notice one whole side of the keep is missing… this was destroyed by Parliamentarian forces during the English Civil War, a result of continuous cannon fire. Another view of Kenilworth keep, looking from the outer bailey area Kenilworth was protected on three sides by a man-made sea, known as a 'mere'. This stretched at it's greatest extent over 1 1/4 miles and was formed by damming a small river. The flat ground surrounding the castle soon flooded. This photo shows the outer curtain wall and the mere, now no longer, would have almost reached this area.
